Title: Examining the Recovery of Bolin Creek following the Drought of 2002: Effects of Urbanization on Resilience

(Research Advisor: Dr. Seth Reice)

M. Thure Caire

While the diversity of life in lakes, rivers and streams can help mitigate the impact of human activities, too much disturbance can irreparably decrease the richness of an ecosystem. By studying the recovery of Bolin Creek following the drought in 2002 I hope to determine the impact of urbanization on resilience of the macro invertebrate community. This community is an excellent indicator of ecosystem health. Such knowledge could help structure policy for smarter development practices, and increase the efficiency of designated green spaces
