Access to the Carolina
Vegetation Survey Database
- The CVS database resides at
zizania.bio.unc.edu/D:/CVS. All users and powerusers of Zizania have read
access. Only administrators have write permission.
- Files in this archive have version
numbers here denoted by xxx. When a new version is installed, the old version
is added to the CVS_Backups file.
- The primary database file is
CVS_xxx.mdb. This is an MS-Access database with the primary CVS data. You
may copy this to other machines within the unc.edu domain, but we respectfully
request that this database file NEVER be copied to a machine outside the
domain without prior permission from RKP and that all information within
the file be considered confidential and restricted to the group unless permission
is otherwise granted.
- To use the CVS database, make
a copy on your machine, and then also copy the view file = CVS_Viewer_xxx.mdb.
You may need to link the files, but a utility is provided for this purpose.
By using this approach, you will ever modify your copy of the underlying
database, but only your viewer file. It is permissable to link to the master
databse on Zizania through your personal viewer. but this may provide somewaht
slower performance.
- For dataentry you should copy
the DataEntryNCVS_xxx.mdb file and use it on your desktop.
- For a list of current CVS projects,
look at CVS_Projects.xls.
- Documentation on use of the
database can be found in the CVS_Documentation folder.
- Blank copies of the database
for your own use can be found in the CVS_Blank folder.
- Pending corrections and additions
to the database are stored in the folder CVS_Changes_pending.
- Carolina Vegetation Survey field
protocol information and supporting programs are stored in the folder CVS_Protocol.
