Excellence in Graduate and Postdoctoral Training Opportunities

Carolina ranks 9th nationwide in federal funding for fellowships, traineeships, and training grants, providing clear evidence of the overall strength of its numerous graduate and postdoctoral programs. The Scientist ranks Carolina 1st among US academic institutions as "best places to work for postdocs".


Outstanding Research Funding

In Fiscal Year 2004, Carolina received $290 million NIH funding. This places Carolina 15th among academic institutions, just behind Stanford and Columbia and just ahead of UW Madison.


One of the "Top American Research Universities"

In a 2004 report entitled The Top American Research Universities, Carolina ranked 4th among public universities. The rankings, produced by the Lombardi Program on Measuring University Performance, are based on data covering areas such as research, private support, faculty and advanced training.


Fifth among Public Universities

The latest rankings by U.S. News and World Report rank Carolina 5th among public universities and twenty-seventh overall.


Fifth "Most Connected Campus"

Carolina ranked fifth among the "most connected campuses" by a measure of "the technological capabilities of the country's best schools" and cutting-edge campuses. Read the full story.
