Research in Biodiversity

The study of biodiversity includes efforts to document, understand, and preserve the diversity of life on Earth. To reach these goals we draw on evidence from phylogeny, geography, genetics, morphology, ecology, and paleontology.

Faculty and Research Interests:

John Bruno Marine Ecology; the population and community ecology and conservation of coastal marine ecosystems

Alan Feduccia Evolutionary biology; avian evolution, paleontology, and systematics.

Patricia G. Gensel Paleobotany (palynology); plant morphology, evolution.

Charles Mitchell Disease ecology, plant invasions, community ecology, global change.

Robert Peet Ecology: plant communities and populations.

Charles H. Peterson Population and community ecology in marine environments.

Seth Reice Disturbances and the maintenance of Biodiversity; Ecology of land use and urban ecology; Sustainable development.

Todd Vision Computational genetics, genome evolution and the architecture of complex traits

Alan Weakley Systematics, biogeography, and conservation of Southeastern United States plants and ecosystems.
