The D. simulans syntenic assembly and the D. sechellia NCBI trace data
were used to computationally predict probable insertion-deletion
polymorphisms between the species. Empirical validation suggests that
~75% of these markers amplify and are easily distinguishable on an 1.5%
agarose gel.

If these primers amplify, they are almost always also polymorphic among
D. simulans lines and often polymorphic in D. melanogaster.
